WELCOME TO MEBANE.
Mebane is located between two metro areas, the Triad which is to the west (consisting of Greensboro, Highpoint, and Winston-Salem) and the Triangle which is to the east (consisting of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill). The city is split between two counties, Alamance and Orange. In the 2000 Census Mebane had a population of 7,284, and is now one of the fastest growing communities in North Carolina with population soon to reach 10,000. Mebane still has the small town, family friendly environment. However, Mebane is in a major upswing residentially and commercially. There are many new residents in Mebane. Major business chains are regularly moving to the city.
Mebane is a unique city of much desired convenience. Interstates 40 and 85 both go through Mebane. Piedmont International Airport(GSO) is located 35 minutes west and Raleigh-Durham International Airport(RDU) is located 50 minutes east. Residents can easily drive east or west to work in the professional Metro areas, and make competitive wages....while driving home to a tranquil environment where your neighbors still wave as they drive by.
Events of all kinds can be attended throughout the year. One of the biggest events held by the city is THE DOGWOOD FESTIVAL. In the summer the Mebane Business Association holds After-work celebrations in one of the main streets once a month. We have wineries serving award wining wines produced from home grown grapes, and providing family friendly entertainment. Mebane has great recreational areas for leisure and relaxation which includes lakes for boating, and fishing, as well as golf courses for the avid golfers.
If you are a new resident, go explore the wealth of the community you now call home. If you have not been here, come see how we "stop to smell the roses."
